Ambassador For Peace Medal

If you served in or during the Korean War, you may be eligible for the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal—a commemorative medal presented as an expression of appreciation from the Korean government.

Congressman Eric Swalwell and Consul General Hon. Han Dong-man of the Republic of Korea are looking for Korean War Veterans residing in California’s 15th Congressional District. The Ambassador for Peace Medal has been presented to veterans as a special memento for those who returned to South Korea through the ‘Revisit Program’. The honor has since expanded to veterans who can no longer travel to Korea.

1. To be eligible, the veteran must have served between June 25, 1950 and July 27, 1953. It is also available for veterans who participated in UN peacekeeping operations until the end of 1955.

2. The commemorative medal may be awarded posthumously. The next of kin, such as the spouse or descendants may apply for the medal on behalf of a deceased veteran.

3. In order to apply, veterans or their family members must complete an application form and submit a copy of the veteran’s DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. If the veteran does not have a copy of a DD-214 or discharge papers, please contact the office of Congressman Swalwell to help retrieve the records from the National Personnel Records Center.

4. Please send your completed application to the Office of Congressman Swalwell, ATTN: Korean Ambassador of Peace Medal, 1260 B St. Suite 150, Hayward, CA 94541. If you have questions regarding the process and application, contact Jason McCartney at (510) 370-3322.
